Hygiene Cleanings

During a dental cleaning, your dental hygienist will perform a deep cleaning of your teeth and gums to prevent and treat disease.

To begin, they will use a scaler to remove any tartar and plaque build-up. Next they will use a polisher and coarse toothpaste to remove any leftover stains or plaque, followed by a thorough flossing of your teeth and gums.

Fluoride Treatment

If you have a high risk of tooth decay, your dentist may also recommend a fluoride treatment. Fluoride is a natural mineral that can help to rebuild the minerals in your tooth enamel to prevent or reverse tooth decay.

Oral Exams

During an exam, your dentist will evaluate your jaw muscles, jaw joint (TMJ) and occlusion (or bite). They will examine each and every tooth for cracks, decay, broken fillings, and discolouration, as well as your gums for gum disease, inflammation and bone loss. Your exam may also include diagnostic procedures such as digital x-rays and an oral cancer screening.

Regular oral exams give your dentist the opportunity to identify any oral health issues and make a plan to treat them.

Oral Cancer Screening

Oral cancer can affect any part of the mouth or surrounding tissues. Using a handheld oral screening device, our dentists can identify abnormalities like cancerous and pre-cancerous lesions which are difficult to detect with the naked eye.
